Stead, the sod capital in Manitoba Canada
The village of Stead is known as the "sod capital" of Manitoba. Stead ships and distributes, sod and peat moss to farmers as far south as Texas.
As far as I could find out the town is named after the author R. J. C. Stead who established the Rock Lake Review, a weekly newspaper based at Cartwright, in 1899. There is a cairn that commemorates him there.
