Dubbed "big marsh" by the eldest son of western explorer La Vérendrye in 1734, the resort town of Grand Marais is a popular destination for cottagers and tourists visiting the Grand Beach area. It is now a community in Manitoba, Canada within the Rural Municipality of St. Clements. Situated immediately south of Grand Beach Provincial Park. It is a short drive from Winnipeg, located in Lake Winnipeg cottage country.
It offers several public services such as, stores, bars, a library, serveral clubs, a Manitoba Hydro outlet, etc.

Today, the town's population swells during the summer as cottagers and tourists stream to the area to enjoy the many resort and entertainment opportunities it offers.
