A Historical Note
When they first explored the area around the estuary of the Winnipeg River, La Vérendrye and his party beached their canoes at Albert Beach. There they could pick up fresh water from a fast flowing spring.
They portaged what would later become the railway dam to Victoria Beach, the 'Isle a la Biche', and there camped on the sandy beaches before carrying on on their venturing onto the waters of Lake Winnipeg.
